First time Volvo for Alex Beaton Haulage and Plant Hire
A good package on offer has persuaded a father and son partnership to opt for their first Volvo branded excavator.
For Alex Beaton and son Alistair opting for a Volvo EC140C heralds a new departure for their contracting and groundworks business based at Erbusaig near Kyle of Lochalsh, moving up in size from mini excavators and a backhoe loader. The decision was in part due to Alistair’s previous experience driving an EC140B for a contracting firm on the east side of Scotland. “We had been looking to upsize for a while and on Alistair’s recommendation along with a good package on offer decided to opt for the EC140C from Volvo,” commented Alex Beaton. “So far the machine has done everything we’ve asked of it and we’re very satisfied with its performance” he continued.
The Volvo EC140C completes the line up of Volvo’s C series crawler and wheeled excavators all featuring Tier III low emission engines. The installed power of the 4 cylinder engine found on the EC140C is 94hp which contributes to an excellent performance being well matched to the machine’s hydraulics. The machine’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high efficiency, rapid dig cycles and low fuel consumption. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.
The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear view camera.
The new machine will be deployed on building, groundwork and general contracts undertaken by Alex Beaton Haulage and Plant Hire in the north west of Scotland and Skye.
