Volvo EC210C has a heritage to look up to

Isle of Skye contractor Ewan (Yogi) Grant has high expectations for his new Volvo EC210C excavator – and rightly so! It joins a vintage Volvo BM 860TL dumptruck circa 1968!

A new Volvo EC210C has been delivered to local contractor Ewan (Yogi) Grant based at Sconser Quarry on the Isle of Skye and was chosen for the package on offer represented good value for money with immediate availability according to Mr Grant. The machine is deployed in conjunction with the duties required at the Highland Council’s Sconser quarry on the island and will be operated by Ewan. It joins a 1968 vintage Volvo BM860TL dumptruck which was acquired by Ewan five years ago and is still actively hauling crushed stone around the stockpiles. “If I can get spare parts for the excavator like I still can for the truck in 40 years time I won’t be complaining,” comments Mr Grant.  

The EC210C is installed with a 6 litre engine developing 150 nett hp.  An advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. Volvo C series excavators are powered by Volvo Tier III low-emission engines which contribute to an excellent performance and are well matched to the machine’s hydraulics providing high efficiency, rapid dig cycles and low fuel consumption. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.
